| Powerline Network Adapter - 200 Mbps |

In Stock and Shipping |
Powerline networking allows you to route your network through the electrical lines that are already built into your home or office. With speeds up to 200 times faster than DSL, this is a great way to get your ethernet network to other floors or rooms in your building, without the need to run wires. Powerline Network Adapters are particularly useful when concrete, metal, or other obstructions in the walls of your home or office block your wireless signals.

General
What can I use Powerline Networking for?
Powerline is ideal for
- Sharing broadband internet access around the home or office
- Connecting networks together
- Sharing printers, scanners and other peripherals
- Transferring and sharing files between computers
- Playing network games - you can even connect your game consoles!
How does Powerline Networking send data through my electrical wires?
Powerline Networking devices convert data from your computer into a signal that can be transmitted over standard AC wires. The signal does not interfere with the ordinary current traveling through the wires. As these devices use the electrical power lines as a means to transfer data, it is normal for the units to become warm during operation.
Is the electrical power line a reliable medium for a computer network?
In comparison to Ethernet cabling, which has clean and consistent characteristics, the AC mains power line used by Powerline Networking is a harsh medium for computer networking. This is because of the many sources of unpredictable noise and interference found around the home - hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, halogen lights, food blenders etc. A typical home power line can have any number of different appliances plugged in and out, turned on and off, or left running for any amount of time. All of this causes the characteristics of the power line to be constantly changing.
How many Powerline Networking devices can I use on my network?
Up to sixteen.
What are the speed and range of a Powerline Networking network?
Powerline Networking networks can run over up to 980 feet of electrical wire at a maximum speed of 200 Mbps.
Are there any OS requirements to run the Powerline Utility?
The MacWireless Powerline Utility will operate on Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Please note that the Powerline Utility is not required for operation, and that the Powerline products will work with any OS.
Can I use Powerline Networking with my current Wireless or Ethernet network?
Yes. Powerline Networking was designed from the outset to provide maximum compatibility with existing wireless and Ethernet networks.
Will Powerline Networking work in any home?
It will work with any home with copper wiring built in. Since some older houses (built before 1950) might have older wiring, it may not work in those cases.
Will the Powerline Networking signal pass through circuit breakers?
Yes, the Powerline Networking signal will have no problem passing through circuit breakers but not through power transformers (those big cyclinders that hang on telephone poles). So essentially all of the outlets you use must be on the same breaker box.
Does Powerline Networking cause any interference with other home networking devices?
No, Powerline Networking operates in a different frequency band than other power line control devices and can co-exist with technologies as X-10, CEBus, and LONworks.
Are there any issues with power strips, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) and circuit breakers?
Extensive testing has shown minimal problems affecting data transfer when these devices are in use, but for the most reliable performance we recommend that each Powerline Networking unit be plugged directly into a mains wall outlet.
My Powerline Network Adapters do not seem to find each other. What can I do?
Plug them both into the same power outlet, and then make sure the LED's on the units light up. If the lights do not turn on try another power plug. Make sure that the units are not plugged into a power surge protector, or an extension cord (sometimes the signal cannot be sent through these devices). Power-cycle the units by unplugging the units and waiting a couple of minutes and plug the units back in.
