New MacWireless Power over Ethernet (PoE) for Apple AirPort Extreme Base Stations with PoE Support (M9397LL/A) gives you everything you need to power your new base station through an ethernet cable. The new base stations are equipped with the ability to receive their power through the ethernet port, but they don't include the equipment required to send power over ethernet cables in the first place. This is where the new MacWireless PoE solution comes in. A special AC adapter and PoE injector allow you to send power to your base station over up to 330 feet of ethernet cable. This is done by "injecting" DC power into unused wires in a normal ethernet cable - that's data and electricity in a single cable.

MacWireless PoE allows you to mount your base station or access point where there is not an electrical outlet nearby, allowing you to position your base station for optimal wireless coverage. This kit is great for mounting your base station on the ceiling, a location which provides excellent wireless reception throughout a building. With this kit you won't need to run an electrical cable on the ceiling, which can prove both awkward and unsightly, as the ethernet cable alone will provide the data connection and the power!
